The gift the birds bring in this series is the gift of flying. Each painting shows a stage in the giving of this gift, which often involves an element of 'pay-back' in the shape of an insect for the bird to eat, or music to bring these insects closer.
Nor is the process without pain, as is seen in the blood oozing from the punctures the birds' talons must make in order to insert feathers. The viewer is left with a challenge: dare you dream the Dream of Flying?
The exhibition took place in the Studio and Gallery Kilbirnie in October 2018. Three of the paintings were also shown that year in the Paisley Art Institute 130th Annual Exhibition, and one hung in the Royal Scottish Academy Open Exhibition.
